Dear , I am very excited to share the first PACRAO newsletter of my presidency! I hope you had a joyous and restful holiday season and are now enjoying your winter/spring term supporting our institutions and the students we serve. These past few months have been exciting working with the Board and the 2024 Conference Chairs to continue the organization's great work. We held the Winter Board Meeting in January at our conference hotel, the Hyatt Regency Seattle. I am thrilled by the accommodations and know it will be an excellent backdrop for a must-attend conference full of learning and networking. This newsletter is different in formatting from previous editions of PACRAO News. I welcome your feedback and thoughts on the newsletter and what information helps make the most of your PACRAO membership! Here's to a fabulous 2024! "This year’s conference was a little wild for me! This was my second in-person PACRAO, and third overall. As VP of Diversity Development, I helped to coordinate our Diversity Luncheon Speaker, and coordinate our PACRAO Gives Back fundraising. I hosted/co-hosted three sessions during the conference, and met dozens of new people! I was very energized by our speakers: Tamam Waritu, Libra Forde, and Sharon Juenemann. Tamam Waritu spoke about the importance of considering first generation students and what those barriers might look like. Libra Forde encouraged us all to think outside the box and consider new ways to do things and support each other. Sharon Juenemann encouraged us to think about the spaces that we create for our students and employees and encouraged us to do our best to consider limitations that individuals may face.” ~Laura Schonberger |

The Shadow Project was selected as the nonprofit organization that we supported for PACRAO Gives Back at the 2023 PACRAO Conference in Portland, Oregon. "The mission of The Shadow Project is to make school more accessible and engaging for K-8 students with learning challenges like dyslexia, ADHD, autism and trauma. We envision an education system that normalizes and celebrates learning differences, and supports every student to thrive in school." PACRAOians, we raised $709 for The Shadow Project through donations from membership throughout the conference! |

PACRAO's Past Dateline November 8-11, 1953 |
|
|
The Pacific Coast Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers held their 27th Annual Conference in Vancouver, BC in November or 1953, the first time in PACRAO's history to meet outside the US. William J. Dillon, Registrar at the University of San Francisco served as President. Other officers included First Vice-President Harvey Hall (Registrar at Stanford University), Second Vice-President Charles B. Wood (Registrar at the University of Washington). Secretary Howard B. Shontz (Registrar, UC-Davis), and Treasurer Louise Hallberg (Registrar, Santa Rosa Junior College). The conference was held at the very impressive looking Hotel Vancouver in downtown Vancouver (it is now called the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver). Built by the Canadian National Railway beginning in 1928, the seventeen-story hotel opened in 1939 and was the tallest building in Vancouver until 1972 when the TD Tower was built. Meals were held in the hotel's main dining room, with sessions in various Salons. Some events took place in the Brock Memorial Building, which was the student union building on the campus of the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. |
| Some highlights from the event: - A reception at luxury Hotel Georgia with music by the Beth Watson Singers on Sunday evening.
- Music by Violinist Kenneth Yunke during the Convention Banquet on Monday evening.
- A tour of UBC campus followed by tea at the faculty club on Tuesday afternoon.
- AACRAO President Dr. Ronald Thompson, Registrar of Ohio State University served as the AACRAO rep.
