Job Details

The University of Utah (the U), the state's flagship institution of higher learning and a major teaching and research university, seeks an experienced, strategic, and creative leader to serve as its inaugural deputy registrar.

The state's oldest institution of higher education, the University of Utah is the flagship of the state. The university boasts 18 schools and colleges and offers more than 100 undergraduate and 90 graduate degree programs to more than 34,000 students. The university is noted for its high research profile, its diversity of ideas and people, its stunningly beautiful setting and the warmth, friendliness, and collegiality of its faculty, staff, and students. The University of Utah saw its largest total enrollment in its history for the fall 2021 semester and welcomed its largest and one of the most diverse freshman classes. The U recently announced plans to grow to over 40,000 students by 2026.

Reporting to the university registrar, Erin Mason, the deputy registrar will join the U in a period of tremendous growth and possibility. The new leader will provide day to day strategic direction and leadership of functions and core processes alongside the university registrar of the university's registration policies and procedures. Achieving the university's goal of excellence, service, and efficiency in records and registration, the new leader will promote student success and support excellence in academics, and help continuously improve the university's systems, processes, and service. Setting the vision for a forward-thinking registrar's function well versed in best practices, the deputy registrar will help foster a culture of inclusion, equity, transparency, open communication, teamwork, student-centeredness, and service.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a solution-oriented, creative, and innovative leader who is ready to hit the ground running. The successful candidate will have proven experience working in a records function – ideally in a complex university setting – and the skills to garner trust and engagement from colleagues across the institution. The new leader will be well versed in change management and industry trends. They will also possess the ability to enhance systems and structures; harness emerging technologies; steward and share data; and stay up to date on the ever-changing world of federal reporting and compliance. The new leader will work closely with the university registrar to maintain an operation that is modern, flexible, dynamic, nimble, and constantly assessed and adjusted to meet current and future needs. As a forward-thinking leader, the new deputy registrar must embrace technology and the analytical tools to automate manual processes, and to make decisions and stay ahead of trends.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and five years of progressively responsible experience in a registrar's office, including management and supervisory experience. A master's degree and prior experience in a central registrar's office in a college/university is preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. In-depth knowledge of, and experience with, the PeopleSoft Student Information System modules, including PeopleSoft security, reporting, and People Tools is strongly preferred.

The U is strongly committed to delivering outstanding undergraduate, graduate, and professional education that prepares students for leadership roles in Utah, the country, and the world. The university's partnership with the state is reflected in a deep commitment to provide education for Utah's residents and service in the university's local and regional communities.
