Brief Description
This important position is a member of the Graduate School leadership team and manages recruitment and admissions processes for 80-plus OSU graduate majors, using approaches that coordinate, enhance and complement departmental efforts. This director must develop, implement and evaluate short- and long-term recruitment and admissions plans to increase applications with specific attention to identified populations and metrics. This position regularly reviews admissions policies and practices with a focus on efficiency, equity and holistic methods. They provide faculty and staff education regarding admissions and recruitment topics. They manage several classified staff members who handle applicant and faculty communications, and daily application and document processing. This position supervises in a sometimes high-volume processing environment. They determine training needs and make appropriate arrangements for provision of training. They must determine resource needs and priorities and make recommendations to executive management. This person has full responsibility for multiple programs within the division and participates in overall strategic vision and budget planning as part of the Graduate School leadership team.

Job Details
20% – Recruitment and outreach efforts

Designs, implements, and evaluates short-term and long-term goals with respect to graduate recruitment and outreach efforts across the institution’s graduate programs.

Regularly assesses latest graduate student recruitment and outreach practices nationally, and incorporates relevant research, techniques, and technology into current practices.

Develops, coordinates, and implements recruitment and outreach activities internal to OSU (e.g. working with graduate program directors to identify potential graduate students) and external to OSU (developing pipeline programs with other institutions, businesses, or communities) to bolster graduate applications and enrollment, with emphasis on expanding enrollment of populations important to achieving a diverse graduate student body. 

Represents OSU at recruitment events or arranges representation.

Supports stakeholders’ recruitment and outreach efforts by providing individual consultations, workshops/tailored sessions, and event co-sponsorship.

10% – Recruitment Communications 

Collaborates with key Graduate School staff to establish and maintain ongoing communication with prospective graduate students in a way that is seamless, timely, and aligned with institutional priorities, which may include implementing a strategic social media campaign used to engage targeted populations.

Works collaboratively with graduate program faculty and OSU marketing staff to develop targeted recruitment and outreach resources (e.g. brochures, display materials, email communication, and web resources).

30% Admissions and Enrollment 

Serves as a liaison for many University departments, coordinating policies and processes that impact graduate applicants. Responsible for development, interpretation and consistent dissemination of admissions policy advice, operational information data and guidance to applicants, faculty, graduate program directors, administrators and the public. 

Works collaboratively to maintain OSU graduate admissions standards and assure that admissions processes run smoothly for domestic and international applicants, which requires frequent, ongoing oversight.

Works collaboratively with the Graduate School Information Technology team and Operations Manager to develop projects that leverage the latest technology improvements to improve admissions and recruitment business workflow, processes and customer service.  

Serves as liaison to Graduate Admissions Committee as an ex officio member to this committee that reviews admissions exception requests.

40% Management

Evaluation 
Tracks recruitment and outreach efforts, event attendance, prospective student interactions and communication effectiveness; analyzes recruitment, admissions and enrollment trends utilizing currently available software; works with technical staff to develop queries, reports and surveys to help guide decision-making. Regularly reviews a variety of exception reports.

Supervisory
Selects, trains, and supervises Graduate School’s admissions processing staff and Student Ambassador team (recruitment); provides daily guidance and ongoing direction and training.

Professional Development
Identifies and actively participates in higher education professional associations related to admissions and recruitment. Identifies appropriate professional development opportunities for staff.

Budget
Proposes and manages annual budget related to recruitment process and admissions needs; provides annual revenue projection updates for admissions and matriculation fees

Leadership and Strategic Planning
Actively participates on the Graduate School Leadership team and on appropriate OSU committees. Provides input into recruitment and admissions goals and strategies; participates in recruitment and admissions initiatives related to strategic plan goals such as diversifying prospect, applicant and student pools.

Minimum Qualifications:
Earned masters degree in Education, Communications or other relevant field.
 
Minimum five years of experience working in higher education program management.
 
Minimum two years supervisory experience.
 
Prior experience working with international populations.
 
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in graduate recruitment or admissions, with progressive levels of responsibility.
 
Five years full-time work experience, or the equivalent of five years full-time work experience (e.g. ten years of half-time work experience), in higher education or a setting that works with a similar adult population.
 
Demonstrated experience developing, leading, and implementing events and initiatives related to recruitment and outreach efforts.
 
Demonstrated ability to work independently, as part of a local team, and in partnership with diverse individuals within and across the organization.
 
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to facilitate presentations to small and large groups.
 
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
 
Proficiency with enterprise data bases, document management software, Google Docs, Microsoft Office Suite, and other technology essential for communication, record keeping, and data management.
