DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Foothill College is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and collegial full-time ESL instructor with a strong commitment to the mission of California's community colleges. The successful candidate will teach the range of ESL classes, including listening/speaking, grammar, and composition/critical reading, with a particular focus in non-credit courses and vocational ESL. Assignment may include evening classes and classes at the Foothill College Sunnyvale Center. The successful candidate will actively participate in ESL Department activities such as program and curriculum development, selection of texts, placement, and pathway alignment from adult-school, non-credit ESL, credit ESL, and transfer-level English.

Faculty also are responsible for developing and assessing Student Learning Outcomes. We seek faculty members who are themselves the life-long learners and independent thinkers we wish our students to become. We are looking for educators who are creative and responsible in their use of time and resources, who possess a clear vision for creating a democratic learning environment, and who can translate that vision into practice.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
2. Master's in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis or education with a TESL emphasis OR Bachelor's in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND master's in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech or any foreign language OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience teaching all English language skills (listening, speaking, grammar, reading, writing) to a wide range of students, including under-prepared, Generation 1.5, and international students.
2. Strong background, experience, and graduate course work in teaching and curriculum for lower levels of English proficiency and vocational ESL.
3. Experience teaching, assistant teaching, or tutoring at the secondary and/or community college.
4. Experience with program administration, including onboarding and assessment in off-campus locations, in the areas of non-credit and vocational ESL (VESL).
5. Ability to speak and write standard American English sufficient to serve as a linguistic model for students.
6. Ability to interact well with an extremely diverse and multicultural student population, including both resident and F-1 visa students and non-traditional populations, such as adult school GED students or incarcerated/formerly incarcerated individuals.
7. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a program team and with colleagues across disciplines, to design, revise, and implement new and existing curriculum and to initiate new projects
8. Active participation in relevant professional organizations.
9. Knowledge of and/or experience with instructional technology and/or learning management systems in a classroom and/or online/hybrid setting.

HIRING RANGE: $60,490.00 - $99,345.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
