ABOUT THE JOB
The Director of Admissions manages complex admissions and recruitment functions. Responsible for providing overall direction, leadership, and coordination of the University's undergraduate recruitment, admission, and yield to meet University enrollment targets. The Director through direct or subordinate leadership oversees all undergraduate admissions functions such as: day-to-day operations; welcome Center; middle and high school and transfer student services; application review and evaluation services; operations; admissions systems; and data management. Develops the long-term organizational goals and strategic plans of the organization.

Directs subordinate supervisors and / or managers. Has broad program responsibility in recruitment and / or admissions. Oversees the program analysis, review, and evaluation. Effectively manages financial and human resources. Represents the University with external organizations. Responsible for the assessment of the overall unit for program results and effectiveness. The Director must have knowledge of best practices in recruitment and admissions and implement them when appropriate.

Creates a recruitment plan that includes CA residents, domestic nonresidents, and international students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Leadership and Vision. Develops, interprets, and administers complex recruitment, admission, and yield programs. Manage the development, dissemination, and revision of strategic communication flows, publications, recruitment videos, newsletters, public presentations, etc.

2) Human Resource Management. Provides direction, support, and assessment to subordinate managers and / or supervisors. Makes decisions on performance, salary actions, hiring decisions and other human resources related issues of managed staff. Develops and maintains a succession plan and staff development plan.

3) Financial Resource Management. Responsible for developing and implementing budgets for managed functions. Manage a budget of over $4 million dollars in support of recruitment, admissions, and yield.

4) Strategic Partnerships and Collaboration. Work with School Deans and members of the Faculty Senate Subcommittee on Admissions and Financial Aid to design campus policies and procedures for undergraduate admissions selection processes, ensure research is conducted periodically which validates the effectiveness of the admissions selection processes and provide historical perspective and significant information on emerging admissions trends and issues. Also, to meet University enrollment goals.

5) Technology. Responsible for maintaining and enhancing technological systems to integrate the Student Information System, Customer Relations Management System, and the Document Imaging and Workflow System. Support efficiencies in recruitment, admissions, and yield.

6) External and Internal Communications and Relationships. Oversees development of multichannel marketing and communication strategy. Collaborates with other units on campus in support of improved and seamless student service. Keep your supervisor informed of critical and noncritical issues or concerns. Represents UC Merced and be the public voice for undergraduate admissions. Strong written and oral communication skills. Timely communication and submission of reports or requests for data/information. Develop and manage timely and appropriate communication flows to prospects, admits, and SIR'd students.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and a minimum of six years in progressively responsible positions that demonstrate experience with an admissions cycle.
- Master's degree is preferred

CRITICAL COMPETENCIES
- Advanced knowledge of education theory, policy, practice, and evaluation as it relates to the complexity of an admissions cycle and state and national admissions issues and trends.
- Significant knowledge of the goals and mission of the University as they relate to academic preparation, recruitment, admission, and yield.
- Significant knowledge of UC's colleges, schools and departmental transfer policies.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a unit within a higher education institution and system with a highly diverse student, faculty, and staff population.
- Advanced knowledge of fiscal management policies and practices and University personnel management policies and practices.
- Knowledge of organizational development strategies and practice.
- Significant knowledge of evaluation methodologies, data analysis procedures, and systems necessary for working with technical staff to develop effective data management and evaluation systems. Using these quantitative and qualitative tools to inform decision-making and devise strategies for addressing specific admissions and enrollment-related situations.
- Evaluation, purchase, and implementation of technology in support of recruitment, admission, and yield as it relates to achieving the mission and goals of the institution.
- Recruitment, hiring, training, and mentoring of talented human resources in support of the Institution's enrollment goals.
- Ability to see the "big picture" recognize new possibilities, challenge established policies and procedures, and solve complex problems, often without precedent.
- Ability to implement services and programs in an efficient, effective manner and to evaluate those efforts with a focus on continuous improvement to the quality of admissions processes.
- Ability to synthesize information quickly, multi-task, work effectively - sometimes under extreme pressure of deadlines, and work easily with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse populations and to represent the University in a professional, authoritative, and tactful manner on complex and important issues, promoting goodwill and public support for UC Merced.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to define and follow timelines and lead action and critical projects to successful and timely completion.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills that demonstrate the ability to effectively present information; make persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics; and influence outcomes.
- Responds in timely manner to emails, texts, etc. Key audiences include the public, senior administrators, faculty groups, alumni groups, media, parent groups, and school/college presentations.
