Brief Description
We are currently seeking a University Registrar to serve as the Registrar for the University of California, Santa Barbara. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services, the University Registrar oversees all activities of the Office of the Registrar. They ensure best practices in the delivery of registration, enrollment, classroom management and electronic student record-keeping. They are also responsible for compliance with internal and external regulations, including the UC, State and Federal (FERPA) laws and policies pertaining to records security and privacy rights of students. The Registrar works collaboratively with administrative and academic departments across the campus, providing services to faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni in support of the university's academic mission.

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience with registrar-related functions.
  • Advanced knowledge of academic programs, policies, processes, and operations in an Association of American Universities (AAU) public research university.
  • Knowledge of Federal and California laws pertaining to the privacy rights of students and access to student information.
  • Previous experience in higher education management.
  • High level of comfort with technology solutions.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with a service mentality.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and sound judgment.
  • Capable of holistically analyzing complex policy and process issues, and implementing solutions that are equitable, innovative, and sustainable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and to work collaboratively with diverse constituents from across the campus.
  • Strong political acumen.
  • Understanding of federal law and policy, national trends, current research, and best practices in the field of registration and records.
  • Demonstrated managerial ability.
  • Capable of fostering collaborative, creative teams that value continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change.
  • Experience implementing student systems and/or other business process improvements within an educational setting.
  • Strong service focus.
  • Seeks to fully understand and fairly address the needs and concerns of a diverse campus community
