College Access Coach
Brief Description
If you have an affinity with high school students and would like to join a team of professionals that directly impact the lives of low-income and underrepresented students, we have an open College Access Coach position at WSU Vancouver.

Summary of Duties

Washington State University (WSU) Vancouver’s Talent Search programs are funded with federal TRiO grants by the Department of Education. The program’s purpose is to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who graduate from high school and successfully complete post-secondary education. The College Access Coach has responsibility to increase Talent Search students’ academic performance through direct tutoring, advising, and developing students’ positive academic behaviors and non-cognitive skills. Responsibilities include mentoring students to increase college and career readiness, coaching students regarding financial literacy, financial aid, and the college application process, and supervising college students who will work part-time directly with the high school students as academic tutors.

This position will schedule, arrange and provide supervision of field trips to college campuses, working as a team with other Talent Search staff. With the assistance of classroom teachers, counselors, and school administrators, the College Access Coach will reach out to students, and use instructional tools and methodologies that are consistent with Vancouver School District and Dept. of Education interventions to achieve grant outcomes. The College Access Coach will monitor, collect, analyze, and document student data for assessment and reporting requirements.

This position is housed out of WSU Vancouver and will work within Hudson’s Bay and Fort Vancouver high schools and/or feeder middle schools to provide direct support for Vancouver School District students. An important component of this position is the knowledge of the community resources in target schools for participants and parents/families geared to serve the needs of low income and potential first-generation college students. The College Access Coach reports to the Campus Director of Talent Search programs at WSU Vancouver.
